level domains set up in the current domain name system:
.com .edu .gov .mil .net and

February
1985 - The
"country-code" top level domains (ccTLDs) were added to the root zone. The
first ones added were .us, for the United States;.gb and .uk, for Great Britain;
.il, for Israel, and .au, for Australia.
April
6, 1998
- BRS Media announced the launch of dotFM®
at the National
Association of Broadcasters (NAB 1998) annual convention in Las Vegas to
register, market and manage the Top Level Domain .fm
September
1998
- ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned
Names and Numbers), a non-profit organization, is formed to manage the technical
concerns of the Internet. This includes overseeing the domain name system (DNS),
allocation of IP address space, assignment of protocol parameters, and the
management of the root server system. (Prior to this time, the US Government
and volunteers were responsible for overseeing the domains space.)
November
2000 - ICANN
board of directors agreed to add seven new top level domains to the name space.
Including: .info .biz .name .aero .coop .pro and .museum

2008 -

in the Top 50 Domain Registrars by Website Magazine, an Internet Merchant Trade
Publication.

26, 2008 -
ICANN announced the “Biggest
Domain Name Expansion” in the history of the Internet. Opening the Domain Space
to
allow any public or private organization from anywhere in the
world to register any string of letters as a gTLD (Generic Top Level Domain).
September
2008 -

Three-Year Sales Growth of 280.6%.
